Reykjanes is an UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark or International Geothermal Area. This recognition implies that Reykjanes possesses unique geological landscapes, terrain and culture.
On this trip you will see the peak of Reykjanes Peninsula. There is a lot of geothermal areas and volcanoes within the park, especially low lava waves and eruptions. Moberg Mountains and Stapar in countless forms are characteristic features of the landscapes is in the area.
To start with we will visit Eldborg, a volcano which is among the most beautiful craters of south west Iceland. We will visit the bridge where you can walk between the two continents; the division between the European and Asian tectonic plates.
We visit Reykjanesviti lighthouse before we head to Gunnuhver, the best known hot geothermal area in Reykjanes along with Seltún, a solfatara field on the way to Krýsuvík, both remarkable places from a geological point of view.
Beside the mud pools and sulphur deposits, we pass the colorful crater lake, the Grænavatn, an old explosion craters formed by volcanic eruptions. Grænavatn Lake, 46 meters (150 feet) at its deepest, glows with a deep green hue and is so coloured because of the presence of thermal algae and crystals that absorb the sun’s rays. We will also pass by Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the peninsula.
At the end of the journey to Reykjanes it is worth visiting the Blue Lagoon (not included). Visitors get to their relationship with nature, soak up the view and enjoy bathing in the clean, fresh air while relaxing in warm soils.
